- Governance Model
-
Token-based or 1-member-1-vote on-chain voting; proposals executed automatically via smart contract once passed. Decision-making is decentralized (who decides), not necessarily networked (how they coordinate). DAOs can also federate: Kevin Owocki's "DAO of DAOs" describes DAOs interoperating through social, technical and governance layers — a pattern among DAOs rather than a distinct organizational type. - Legal & Territorial Status
-
No inherent territorial ambition. Legal personhood is typically absent or bolted on separately (e.g. a Wyoming DAO LLC wrapper); operates purely as digital/financial infrastructure. - Membership Basis
-
Token or NFT holding, or on-chain reputation; membership is fungible/transferable in most token-based DAOs. - Funding & Treasury
-
On-chain treasury (multisig or protocol-controlled), funded by token sales, protocol revenue, or member contributions; fully transparent, proposal-gated spending. - Representative Examples
-
See the DAO comparison page (linked from this row) for individual examples across governance models, treasuries, and legal wrappers.

- NAO Its own primary source frames the NAO as 'DAOs whose populations are Trust Networks'.
Tecnología y dinero en los que se apoya este tipo
A DAO's rules and treasury controls are encoded in blockchain smart contracts, so it needs a platform that can run them; Ethereum, Solana and NEAR are listed as examples.
Arquitectura Monetaria interconectada
- Quadratic funding
DAOs and ecosystems commonly use quadratic funding to share a grants budget so that broad support counts for more than a few large donors, and Gitcoin's open-source Allo Protocol builds on its experience running 18 such rounds.
- Retroactive public goods funding
Several ecosystem DAOs use retroactive funding to pay for public-goods impact after it is visible, with Optimism's multi-round RetroPGF program the best known.
- Bonding curve / continuous token
Several DAOs, such as Giveth, use augmented bonding curves to fund community treasuries, a pattern proven at community scale rather than large scale.
- Asset-backed digital stablecoin
DAO treasuries hold reserve-backed stablecoins as their main low-volatility asset, roughly eight percent of the twenty largest treasuries in a 2023 study that recommended holding more.
- Programmable-layer digital commodity currency
Ether is the main non-native asset in DAO treasuries, roughly nine percent of the twenty largest treasuries in a 2023 study, held alongside each DAO's own token.
