Governance Model
Multi-stakeholder governance in which no single sector dominates. The Forest Stewardship Council, which a review of Waddell's book lists as a GAN, gives environmental, social and economic chambers equal voting weight in a General Assembly of its members, which elects the board.
Legal & Territorial Status
No territorial claim. Participants span the governmental, nonprofit and private sectors, so the form is defined by its multi-sector membership rather than by a single legal status or jurisdiction.
Membership Basis
Institutional and individual participants from each sector who join around a shared issue; the FSC, for example, has over 1,000 individual and organizational members grouped into three chambers.
Funding & Treasury
No single treasury model is documented in the sources reviewed for this entry; funding varies by network.
Representative Examples
Forest Stewardship Council (which a 2011 review credits with certifying about 300 million acres of forest); the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria; the Principles for Responsible Investment.

Em que se diferencia

Unlike a single nonprofit or corporation, a GAN is a network of participants from the governmental, nonprofit and private sectors, with governance designed so that no one sector dominates — the Forest Stewardship Council's equal-weight chambers are the example. Unlike a Network Nation or a DisCO, it is organized around a shared issue rather than a shared identity or way of life, and unlike a DAO it is not defined by on-chain governance.
