A privacy-first cryptocurrency protocol using ring signatures, stealth addresses, and RingCT to obscure sender, receiver, and transaction amount by default (not opt-in privacy). RandomX (a CPU-optimized Proof-of-Work algorithm, adopted 2019) is the current consensus mechanism, chosen specifically to resist ASIC mining centralization. No foundation or company controls it — development is fully community/donation-funded via the Monero Community Crowdfunding System (CCS).
