Cardano

Protocolo P2P

A Layer-1 blockchain using the Ouroboros family of provably-secure Proof-of-Stake protocols, developed with an academic-peer-review-driven research methodology. Governance transitioned in the "Voltaire" era to on-chain mechanisms (CIP-1694): DReps (delegated representatives) vote on governance actions including protocol parameter changes and treasury spending, alongside a Constitutional Committee and SPOs (stake pool operators). The cardano-node repository is now maintained under IntersectMBO (renamed from the original Input Output HK organization in 2023).

Estado de Desarrollo 🟢 Activo
Propietario IntersectMBO (the current organizational steward of core development, successor structure to IOG/IOHK); Cardano Foundation (standards/ecosystem stewardship) and Emurgo (commercial arm) are the other two "founding trio" entities.
Órgano de Gobierno Post-Voltaire on-chain governance (DReps + Constitutional Committee + SPOs voting on governance actions) — a genuinely live, binding mechanism, not just a roadmap intention.
País N/A (IntersectMBO/Cardano Foundation/Emurgo are separately-registered entities across multiple jurisdictions)
Año de Inicio 2017
Stack Haskell (core node), with Plutus (Haskell-based) as the smart-contract language.
Financiamiento Historically IOHK-contracted development funding; now also a substantial on-chain Treasury funded by a percentage of transaction fees/protocol rewards, allocated via the on-chain governance process itself (Catalyst funding rounds, treasury withdrawals via DRep/Constitutional Committee approval).

Fondos On-chain Treasury (see Governing Body) — a real, disclosed, protocol-level treasury, unusual among this batch.
Basado En Novel Ouroboros consensus family; not forked from a prior chain.
Arquitectura P2P Stake-pool-operator (SPO) gossip network; Ouroboros epoch/slot-leader election determines block producers.
